Meals Throughout the Day

Breakfast

It is no lie that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you have a healthy, hearty breakfast it will give you the best start to your day. Children who eat breakfast do better in school. Eating breakfast will prevent us from eating too much later on in the day and will provide us with the fuel necessary to keep going through a busy day.

Here are some recipes that will help you get your energy up to start your day.  You can also use some of the recipes listed under Healthy Snacks for your breakfast.  For example, you can have a muffin with a smoothie or bannock with peanut butter, banana and a glass of milk.

Lunch and Dinner

You can have lots of fun with lunch, either using last night's leftovers or making a new lunch everyday. Lunch can consist of soups, sandwiches, salads, wraps, you name it.  Be sure to round it out with a piece a fruit and a healthy drink like water, 100% juice or milk.

Dinner does take a bit more planning on your part, especially if you have a family. Making a meal plan for the week will help you when you are buying groceries and you will be less likely to buy items you already have or don't need.

Healthy Snacks

Snacks are a great way to keep your energy up throughout the day.  The key is to make sure you're choosing the right snack and to watch how much you are eating.

Try to aim for foods that are missing from your other meals - milk, yogurt, or other products containing calcium, fruits and vegetables, or meat to get your iron.  Limit foods that are high in sugar, fat and salt.
