Swelling

Why?
Pregnant women naturally keep more water in their bodies. Many women notice some swelling in the 3rd trimester (7-9 months). This is normal.

How to cope

Never cut back on the amount you drink.  You need to drink healthy drinks regularly including low fat milk and water.  Salty foods should be limited.

To reduce swelling:

  • Put your feet up
  • Try not to cross your legs
  • Wear loose clothing
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Keep active

Did you know?
"Drinking water actually helps to control the swelling."

Check with your nurse, midwife or doctor if you have a lot of swelling or swelling that happens all of a sudden.
