Snacking is a great way to help get the nutrition you need when you are pregnant. You want to make sure that the foods you pick for your meals and snacks are giving you and your baby good nutrition and are not just “empty calories” or high in sugar, fat or salt.
- Here are some great snack ideas:
- Dry meat or dry fish (without lard or butter)
- Cut-up vegetables and low-fat ranch dip
- Yogurt with a handful of berries
- A couple pieces of cheese and apple slices
- A couple stalks of celery with peanut butter spread in the middle
- Canned peaches or pears (canned in water or their own juice) and a handful of almonds
- Whole wheat bannock and a couple pieces of cheese
- A cup of milk and half a peanut butter sandwich on whole wheat bread
- A homemade fruit and yogurt smoothie
- A small bowl of canned beans in tomato sauce and a couple of whole grain crackers
- A boiled egg and a piece of whole wheat toast
- Banana dipped in peanut butter
