Eat a variety of foods from the four food groups

If you are eating a variety of foods from the four food groups, you should be getting a variety of different vitamins and minerals.  When you are not pregnant, eating a balanced diet should be enough, but when you are pregnant, your needs and your baby's needs for some vitamins and minerals are higher.  This is why it is important to make sure you are eating well while you are pregnant. 

Take your prenatal vitamins!

In addition, it is very important to make sure that you are taking your prenatal vitamins every day.  It is also important to make sure that these vitamins contain folic acid and iron.  If you are not taking prenatal vitamins, or don’t know where to get them, talk to your doctor, CPNP nutritionist or visit your local health center.
